In 2023, I met Dillon and Layla (musically known as Les Free Romantiques), two fellow traveling artists who'd come to visit Paris, and we quickly became dear friends. They invited me to join them for a tour around their home country of Australia, and in Sep/Oct 2024 we made it happen. I jumped in a car with them and writer/musician Maxine Lovett, and we spent almost 5 weeks creating, performing, and exploring the country. We traveled across deserts, mountains, rainforests, beaches, in the baking heat and the freezing cold. We wrote, played music, bonded, changed, grew. I gave readings in several cities. It was a classic road trip. A rich and transformative time, during which I lost a loved one, and also gained some new family. The trip resulted in numerous poems, songs, interviews, music videos, collaborations, and other creative projects. And the whole time, from when I got on the plane to when I landed back in Paris, I kept a handwritten diary of every day and everything we went through.
That diary, of 145 pages, which I've titled "Love and death and the road goes on..." is now up for auction. This is the actual, physical book I had with me on the road, into which I entered my handwritten thoughts every day. It comes with a companion booklet of 175 printed photos, which I have also annotated by hand, as well as a few rare souvenirs from the trip. If you are interested in owning this one-of-a-kind artifact of a legendary voyage, you can submit a bid privately by email, or via any other message platform.
